1. Cyber Defender
Section 1

Cyber Defender finished 4th overall out of the five registry-cleaning products we tested. Honestly, it was really close to being ranked last but in two of the more important tests (Registry Changes and PC Performance) it ranked better than our last place selection.

So before you judge, let’s take a closer look at how close Cyber Defender was to its peers.

2. Scan Speed Test
Section 2

Cyber Defender tested for scan time, number of errors detected,
and accuracy of errors removed...

Cyber Defender came in 2nd place in the scan speed test, finishing up at 2:47 seconds.

As with every product we tested, no significant load was added to the CPU during the scan. Cyber Defender might be fast, but we need to examine the errors it found and how well it was at fixing them before we can begin to understand its overall performance. Let’s take a look at Cyber Defender’s scan results.

Please see the video to see this test in action.

3. Registry Errors Found and Fixed Tests
Section 3

Cyber Defender placed last by only finding 54 errors in the number of errors found category. Since each product may count registry errors differently, we also tested how efficiently errors found were actually fixed using third-party software as a benchmark.

Unfortunately, Cyber Defender finished 4th in the changes made to the registry category. Cyber Defender made 72 changes to the registry during the error-fixing step, while it only detected 54 errors during the scan (only 67% accurate). This is a sign that Cyber Defender isn’t accurately reporting all the errors it finds, or it is fixing things it hasn’t reported. Either way it’s a bit misleading and inaccurate.

To see this test in action, please watch the video above in Section 2.

4. Common Registry Errors Test
Section 4

Testing the ability of Cyber Defender to remove some common
and annoying error messages
To make matters worse, Cyber Defender also finished last in the common registry errors test.

Cyber Defender was the only product we tested that didn’t find or fix any of the five common registry errors we introduced into our test system.

So it seems Cyber Defender was off to a great start with its fast scan speed, but when careful consideration is given to the errors it finds and/or fixes, it is not performing as well as we would like to see for a registry-cleaning product.

A video of the test results can be viewed above.

5. Multiple Scans Test
Section 5

Testing whether new errors are found after multiple consecutive scans
Cyber Defender got back on track during the multiple scans test.

In this test, each product ran five successive scan and fix cycles, and the number of errors detected after each cycle were investigated. Cyber Defender impressed us and fixed all of its errors in the first cycle, and each successive cycle introduced zero errors. These are the results we would expect to see from a registry cleaning product.

6. PC Performance
Section 6

Our final test was the PC Performance to test to see if it was possible to measure any overall improvement in the computers performance as a result of running Reg Cure.

To do this, we used some PC Benchmarking software that measures the performance of the various components of a PC and gives an overall performance score.  First we established the baseline performance score before running the registry scan and then ran the performance scan again to see if the overall score had improved as a result of using Reg Cure.

The baseline score was 458.3 and the score after running Registry Fix was 471.3.  See image below of all registry cleaners and their performance scores.

Cyber Defender finished 4th in the PC performance category. It increased overall PC performance by only 3%. This is an important metric for many users seeking to clean their registry, and we would expect to see a higher performance boost than that, so we are not overly impressed with Cyber Defender’s performance here.

7. Summary
Section 7

Early Detection Center All in all, Cyber Defender finished 4th among the five registry-cleaning products we tested. It did to well in the scan speed category, but when it came to error detection and removal, as well as boosting your PC’s performance, Cyber Defender left a lot to be desired.
